1. How many parks are involved with the Park Voyagers program?
Currently, there are 20 parks in Park Voyagers. Although the phase that a particular park is in changes, ten parks in Phase Three and ten parks in Phase Four.
2. What is the Park Voyagers phase cycle? How long is each phase?
Park Voyagers is designed as a three-year program. The first year is comprised of Phase One (10 weeks) and Phase Two (over a 12-week period). The museum visits that make up Phase Three take place in the second year. The third and final year is Phase Four when families are on their own to explore the 10 museums with their free unlimited-use museum passes.
3. What are the requirements (or expectations) of each phase?
Afterschool Program/Phase One: Children 8-10 years old are encouraged to join, and expect that the kids will participate for the full 10 weeks.
Family Workshops/Phase Two: Families that participated in Phase One and other families with children of any age are welcome. Families that attend two of three Thursday workshops and two Saturday field trips are eligible for free single-use museum passes, and to have their family name on the mailing list for museum and PV mailings.
Museum Events/Phase Three: Families that participated in Phase One and/or Phase Two and other families are welcome. Families that consistently attend special museum events are eligible for Phase Four and free unlimited-use passes to each of the 10 museums.
Phase Four: There are no additional requirements once you have your Phase Four passes. We hope you will use them often and make museum-going a regular activity with your family.
4. Is a family expected to participate in every phase of the program?
Each phase builds upon the previous one. This enables and encourages families to become increasingly confident and self-sufficient in using museums on their own. We believe that to get the full impact of the resources available in Park Voyagers, a family should participate in every phase, but this is not mandatory.
5. Can I include other family members?
With the exception of Phase One, where participants should be 8-10 years old, any member of your family is welcome in Park Voyagers.
6. Where does the money for Park Voyagers come from?
Currently, the funders for the program are the 10 Museums In the Park (Adler Planetarium, The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago History Museum, DuSable Museum of African American History, The Field Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Science and Industry, National Museum of Mexican Art, Notebaert Nature Museum, John G. Shedd Aquarium).
7. Why does Park Voyagers want to know information about my family, like where we live, and how many family members we have?
As a way to track our success, we are often asked by our funders, collaborative partners and community members for statistics about the program. We do everything we can to protect your privacy.
